  2. Dip the chicken in the tempura

  3. Coat the chicken with rice crisps and arrange in the air fryer/oven pan

  4. Spray a little olive oil (optional)

  5. Put in an air fryer/oven at 200°C until slightly browned (about 10 minutes)

  6. Meanwhile prepare the sauce - mix the water and the cornstarch

  7. Pour the water and cornstarch that we mixed into the pan and boil

  8. Add the chili sauce and spices

  10. Pour the sauce over the crispy chicken/transfer the sauce to a bowl and dip the chicken in the sauce

  11. Appetite!

Small tips that make a difference

  • Cut the chicken into even cubes so everything cooks at the same rate.
  • Spray with oil before baking — that is what creates the crunch without frying.
  • Add the sauce only at the end, otherwise the coating softens.

Frequently asked questions

How much protein is in a serving?
About 69g of protein per serving — one of the highest protein dishes on the site, with no deep frying.
Is the sauce really sugar free?
Yes, the sauce is built on a sweetener instead of sugar, so it keeps the sweet chilli flavour without the calories.
How do I keep it crispy?
Serve immediately after tossing in the sauce. If preparing ahead, keep the sauce separate and combine before serving.
